The music world mourns Anthony Jackson, the legendary US bassist who passed away a few days ago. Jackson is considered one of the most influential musicians of his instrument - a virtuoso who revolutionized the playing of the electric bass and set standards with his precise technique, warm tone, and musical intelligence.
He became known for his work with world stars like Chaka Khan,Lee Ritenour,Steely Dan,Al Jarreau and Paul Simon. His unmistakable bass line in the song “For the Love of Money” by The O’Jays is already music history. Jackson was also the inventor of the 6-string bass, which was later adopted by many modern bassists.
A musician colleague recently recalled joint recordings with Jackson in the late 70s in Los Angeles and later in Montreux for Chaka Khan's album “What Cha’ Gonna Do for Me”, produced by Arif Mardin. Jackson's playing – together with Steve Ferrone and David Williams – created magical moments there. In the early 90s he finally stood with Al Jarreau on stage, where he once again proved his unwavering musicality and deep understanding of groove and harmony.

Anthony Jackson was not only a master of his craft but also – as many report – a true gentleman: intelligent, humble, and full of warmth.
