Here are a few voices from the network of fans of the McIntosh MR78
I just received the repaired MR78 tuner. It's connected and working wonderfully. Thank you and the team for the quick and excellent service. And please add a special thank you to Mr. Modafferi for maintaining this great device. A.Z. CA
Mr. Modafferi has created a masterpiece. Please pass on my compliments and thanks! This tuner easily picks up stations, and with its great selectivity, there's no interference from other stations. For stations set to normal sensitivity where the stereo display flickers or isn't present at all, a constant stereo display almost always appears when switching to narrow or super narrow. Sometimes there's audible noise that can be eliminated with the filter selection. This tuner rocks! I'm currently listening to a classical music station from Detroit with low wattage, which required a narrow and single-stage filter, but now it's crystal clear and with great sound fidelity. The antenna is 70 miles away from me... D.K., MI

The MR78 arrived in my office yesterday afternoon. Since I couldn't stand it, I took the rest of the day off and rushed home to hook it up and listen to it. I've read Richard's notes several times, and even though I'm an engineer myself (ME, not EE), I know my limits and admit that I don't understand everything he wrote. But whatever, the tuner sounds good. I can't say how much better, i.e., before and after, but I can tell you that my favorite station is about 60 miles away.is and before Richard worked his magic, it was only hearable in mono, now it's in stereo. I'm really impressed. Please pass my thanks to Richard. By the way, I sold McIntosh in stores in Seattle and San Diego for most of the 1970s and had an extremely high opinion of the MR78, but I could never afford one back then, not even when I had a place (starving student syndrome). It's a big privilege to finally own one and know that it works with the highestefficiency. B.S., FL

Awesome. Sounds great. A beautiful piece of electrical heritage. Thanks a lot to everyone involved. J.B., MA
I want to take this opportunity to thank you and your staff for the great work you did restoring my C28, MC2205, and MR78 some time ago.......... The wrapped palette that was sent back to me was so beautiful that I didn't want to open it right away....... Your shipping technique is unmatched........ Nothing, aside from an explosion or a fire, could damage the equipment shipped with your packaging methods.......... Everything is good and the devices look and sound,at least for my ears, like in 1973......... Thanks again for making the decision to send them back to me a 'no-brainer'......... I also really enjoyed the book about the amplifier clinics that I attended a few times at Stuart's Audio in Westfield, NJ. J.G., PA

The MR78 is brilliant. Although it doesn't sound as warm as the MR67, it makes better use of the external antenna, is much more selective, and the sound is punchier and more detailed. With the knobs, I have more control over the station tuning. Plus, it's a beautiful device. G.L., NY
The MR-78 came home yesterday... as predicted. It worked perfectly right away. Thank you for the great job on restoring and reviving my tuner. It looks better than new and plays better than ever before. It also works perfectly and receives more stations through these apartment walls. The stereo reception of all local stations is at 100%, a huge improvement. Thanks again, Richard Modafferi, for your work. M.H., DC
In recent years, prices for the McIntosh MR78 have been called between 2500 USD – 4000 USD for enthusiasts. Such analog tuners in top condition or restored are rare to find.
I received the Mac MR78 tuner yesterday in a tank-like packaging and immediately put it into operation... The best word to describe the sound of FM music is AMAZING, and of course paired with my first Mac C28 preamplifier. I believe the two devices are meant for each other. I placed the MR78 on the C28. I never thought FM broadcasts could sound as good as CDs or even better. This should be the ultimate FM tuner and will beat any sophisticated and cost-effective digital tuner on thetoday's market. The device is really beautiful from every angle, well-built machine, built like a tank! Thanks again for the excellent service. My next project will be the Mac MC 150. I hope to get this device soon for my collection. R.A., FL
